News: Peugeot Onyx Goes Official

Mind us, when we reported about the Onyx getting a 1.6l THP and an electric motor, we were wrong. The Onyx is a hybrid - we got that right - but the petrol engine isn't a 1.6 THP with 258 bhp. Instead, it is a 3.7l V8 HDi FAP engine also used in the Le Mans project producing a crazy 600 bhp at the mid section of the HotWheels like vehicle with all those power channeled to the rear wheels. *cough* Easy burnouts *cough* If 600 bhp isn't enough for you, there is an 80 bhp electric motor available as a boost button to increase acceleration. All that power will be transmitted by a six-speed sequential shift gearbox.

The body is made up of carbon fibre and houses the Zagato like bubble roof also seen on the RCZ.  PolyMethylMethAcrylate (PMMA) is used instead of the usual glass material for windows, the dash gets wood from recycled newspaper and the rest of the interior is made up of compressed felt with no stitching. The Onyx isn't just a display concept as the monolithic carbon chassis is designed with a flat carbon fibre floor seen in race cars but that doesn't mean it is a race car as it is optimized for public roads, alike MC12 perhaps? Together with the untreated copper covered doors, the Onyx weighs just 1,100 kg. Eccentric, in a good way.
