News: McLaren X-1 Concept

Batmobile
Just when you think you've made it in life being able to afford a used Audi R8, the super rich brings it up a notch by ordering one-off models from supercar makes - for example, the Mclaren X-1. This batmobile is created by McLaren Special Operations department for an anonymous McLaren enthusiast. And just to give you a picture about how avid a fan that lucky fart is about McLaren, he has a McLaren F1, SLR McLaren and the MP4-12C.

Doors still go up McLaren fashion
R8 front lights? No
To add to his loyalty towards McLaren, he went on to request this one-off model to be based off a few things he desires - namely a 1939 Mercedes-Benz 540k, 1953 Chrysler D'Elegance Ghia, 1959 Buick Electra, 1961 Facel Vega, 1971 Citroen SM, a Jaeger LeCoultre clock, an Airstream trailer, a Thomas Mann Montblanc pen, a grand piano and weirdly enough, an eggplant (most probably the colour scheme). This car collector even made McLaren conduct a competition between designers to be then selected by McLaren's Hong Yeo and of course himself as a final verdict to create the car.

And the rear wheel covers go up
Rear lights seem jewelry like
The car is almost entirely bespoke but shares technical similarities with the MP4-12C largely because it is based off it. The engine is the same twin-turbo 3.8l V12 unit pushing 616 bhp and the interior is what you would find in its donor car but with expensive touches of course. Red Nappa leather seats and nickel-coated aluminium bezels and  titanium-weave carbon trim just to name a few.

According to McLaren's design director, Frank Stephenson, " McLaren X-1 concept is the ultimate expression of the company’s ability to tailor a unique product and enable the client to become an integral member of the design team." Looks wicked, this.
