BMW has previewed the Active Tourer ahead of its Paris Motor Show debut and let me tell you, it's a shocker. Aimed as a B-Class contender, the 1-Series GT is front-wheel-drive. Might not sound like much but to know that BMW was basing all their models on rear-wheel-drive platforms all the while, the front-wheel-drive 1 Series GT is highly unexpected.
The Active Tourer will be motivated by a new 1.5l three-cylinder TwinPowerTurbo engine coupled to an electric motor and lithium-ion batteries enough for a combined output of 187 bhp and 200 Nm of torque. 0 to 100 km/h will take less than 8 seconds and is able to hit a top speed in excess of 200 km/h. The electric motor is capable of giving a mileage of 30 km if the Tourer runs on electric alone and this hybrid is expected to return a respectable 2.5l/100km (40km a litre). Very positive claims and very real. I like.
Of late, designs panned out by BMW had its ups and downs but this clearly takes the crown of being sinfully good looking. Sleek, organic lines, smoother looking grille design, bulbous bonnet and a more artfully tasty front fascia design make the Active Tourer look smaller, tauter even than its bulges suggest - 4,350mm long, 1,834mm wide and 1,560mm tall .
The interior may be a bit concept-ish looking but peel those lightings away, replace the steering wheel as well as the air vents, add a more mundane looking leather design and you're looking at the next 1-Series GT in production form. BMW has even added toys into this vehicle with a 10.25-inch display as an instrument cluster replacing the mechanical gauges of old and a panoramic roof that acts much like Mercedes' Magic Sky tech - instead called the Suspended Particle Device technology (SPD) that controls the amount of light seeping into the cabin.
As pictures wouldn't do much justice, here are two videos for a clearer look at the car. So, you laik?
