News: Honda Accord US Gets a Hybrid & More Photos of the Petrol Models

Quirky body kit
You've read about the Honda Accord before over here. Not much else is revealed except for the fact that it has a hybrid model now. As usual, there are two engines powering the hybrid; an i-VTEC four pot producing 137 bhp and an electric motor with 166 hp. Combined, they produce a total of 196 bhp.

The battery pack has a capacity of 6.7 kWh. That together with the petrol engine is claimed to be able to cause the Accord to reach a 100 miles to the gallon, that's 42.5 km a litre. The car is programmed to run on pure EV at first till the battery goes out and the petrol engine will then activate and enable the car to run on hybrid mode.

Charging is still a problem but time taken for a full charge is now much faster than before. Before, fully charging an EV vehicle, you'd finish Super Mario on your son's DS three times and still have enough time for a cup of coffee. Now, with a standard 240V household outlet in Malaysia, it takes an hour to fully charge the battery pack in the Accord Hybrid. With a 120V output, you'd get 3 hours instead.

Press the green button?
Oh, the Hybrid model will be made available in 2014 though. That's a year slower than the petrol ones. I'm quite confident that the Accord Hybrid will make it to Malaysia since hybrids aren't taxed, yet. Anyway, take a look at the petrol models too.
