And when you thought that MINI has run out of a new add-on to an already massive collection of six variants of MINIs, they've just released another. The Paceman. Basically a coupe version of the Countryman, the Paceman hits the spot of looking fancy and pretty or what the Countryman wasn't.
The sloping roofline, reinvented rear lights, stretched side profile and the flared wheel arches make a good recipe for a more receptive not so mini MINI. Dubbed as a Sports Activity Coupe (SAC), the Paceman sports the same array of engine choices and I'm sure a JCW version will crop up soon enough. Four engines are revealed - of which two are petrol and the other two, diesel based.
The two petrol variants are a 1.6l four producing 122 bhp & 160 Nm of torque and a turbo-ed 1.6l producing 184 bhp & 240 Nm of torque. 0 to 100 km/h is done in 10.4 seconds for the naturally aspirated unit and 7.5 seconds for the latter. The first diesel variant is also a 1.6l but has a more modest output, 112 bhp & 270 Nm of torque while the second choice is a 2.0l worthy of 143 bhp and 305 Nm of torque. The century sprint is done in 10.8 seconds for the 1.6 litre and 9.4 seconds for the 2.0 litre diesel topper. All variants come standard in a six-speed manual and front-wheel-drive while a six-speed automatic and MINI's ALL4 all-wheel-drive system is available as an option.
Other than the different exterior, underneath shares almost everything with the Countryman albeit with a lower stance. Suspension setup is made lower and of a more sporty aim featuring MacPherson spring struts up front and multi-link at the rear axle. 16-inchers are standard for the basic models and 17-inch rims are for the hotter ones. 18-inch is available as an option and trust me, it'll sell like hot cross buns.
